Student Dormitory & Housing

Chinese students applying from abroad are eligible to apply for on-campus dormitory. There are 3 dormitories available. The rent is about NTD. 18,000 along with NT$1,000 damage deposit upon registration for each student per semester. The deposit will be refunded when students check out of the dormitory.

The rent for apartments out campus will be varied. For information for the apartments out-campus, please contact the center office.

Medical Services

Health Care Center located on campus with nurses offering clinical services such as family medicine, internal medicine, and dentistry.

Food Service

School Cafeterias in the student dorms offer Chinese and some Western Food. Also students can buy lunch boxes in the Convenience store 7-11 can at reasonable prices.

Work

According to Article 43 of the Employment Services Act, foreigners without a permit with an employer must not engage in work in the ROC. The term ¡§work¡¨ refers to any labor or services rendered, regardless of whether it is for pay or voluntary. The scope of works as limited in Paragraph 1 of Article 46 does not apply to the following categories of students to be employed to engage in work in the Republic of China; with the exception of the winter and summer vacations, their sum of working hours shall not exceed sixteen (16) hours per week:

  1. Foreign students enrolled in a public or registered private college/university; and
  2. Oversees Chinese Students and other Foreign Students of Chinese Origin enrolled in a public or registered private high school or above.

Climate

Kaohsiung¡¦s climate is tropical and is usually humid throughout the year. Average temperature of summer is 29C (84F). Summer, from May until September, is usually humid and intensely hot. The rainy season lasts from April to August. Typhoon season is mainly between June and September. Winter is short and chilly, usually lasts from mid December to February.

Electricity

Electric supply is 110 volts, 60 cycles, AC.

Transportation

Transportation in Taiwan is convenient, efficient, and relatively inexpensive. There are many different ways of getting around in Kaohsiung and exploring the rest of the island.

Motorcycles are the most common transportation. The Bus is also a convenient commuting tool, and the fare fee for the regular bus is NT$12. The bus stop is right in front of the university entrance.

How to reach Kao Yuan University?

  1. From Airport: after arriving at the Kaohsiung International Airport, students can take KRTC(R) from the Kaohsiung International Airport to Chiao Tou Station (R23) by the Red line and then transfer to the Jet Bao bus to Kao Yuan University.
  2. From Kaohsiung railway station: you could take KRTC from Kaohsiung Main Station to Chiao Tou Station (R23) by the Red line and then transfer to the Jet Bao bus to Kao Yuan University.
  3. From Taiwan High Speed Rail station: after arriving at Tainan Station, students can take the "High Speed Rail Gushang" transit trains to Zhong-Lun Station and then Luju train station.

Notes for applicants

  1. Students who would like to drive or ride in Taiwan could refer to the website of National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior
  2. Helmets are required while riding motorcycles or scooters, and be sure to always have your driving license and car/scooter registration with you for inspection.
  3. Drivers are required to obey the campus traffic rules when driving on campus. Besides, parking in the dormitory area is prohibited.
  4. The CLC does not offer airport pickup service; therefore, please have all transportation information you need on hand before arriving at Kaohsiung.
